Public Exhibit Opening – Amazon Voyage: Vicious Fishes and Other Riches
Saturday, Oct. 3 | 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Visit seven ports of call along the most biologically diverse river in the world, the Amazon. Encounter amazing creatures including notorious piranhas, enormous anacondas, beautiful stingrays and mysterious pink dolphins. Through hands-on activities, original multimedia presentations, computer interactives, live fish in uniquely designed tanks and original artifacts, visitors investigate the region's incredible biodiversity, encounter field researchers making incredible new discoveries and participate in a celebration of the Amazon River. This interactive, bilingual exhibition developed by the Miami Museum of Science & Planetarium is designed for everyone, especially families with children. Admission is $8 for adults, $7 for Florida residents, $6.50 for seniors, $6 for students, $5.50 for ages 3-12, and FREE to members and children 2 and under.

Take your voyage to a whole new level with a fun-filled day of activities and crafts! With local experts as your guide, investigate the seven perils of the Amazon River and discover the biological diversity of this unique eco-system. Join Museum staff in celebrating the opening of our newest exhibit, Amazon Voyage.

Explore the lives of bats, bees, birds and butterflies at this fall's ButterflyFest. Learn about butterfly gardening, native pollinators, conservation, backyard wildlife and much more! Watch in awe as this year's Monarchs take flight and begin their journey to Mexico. Join wildlife and Lepidoptera expert Tom Allen as he shares his knowledge on native gardening. Come dressed in your favorite pollinator attire or decorate your own mask and wings for the Pollinator Parade! Interact with local organization and participate in our first Pollinator Photo Contest!

International Year of Astronomy

Starry Night
Friday, Sept. 25 | 5 - 10 p.m.

See the night sky closer than ever before. Join the UF Astronomy Department and the Alachua Astronomy Club for an inside look at the world beyond! Build a telescope, see a portable planetarium show, or view a moonscape in 3-D! Join astronaut, Captain Winston Scott, for an inside look at what it takes to visit space. Bring the whole family for a fun-filled night of astronomical proportions! This event is made possible in part by the UF Astronomy Department, Alachua Astronomy Club, GE Foundation, and the NASA Space Grant consortium.

Ever wonder how milk jugs can morph into beautiful wading birds, or how gears and gadgets can become gigantic bugs? See middle, high school and college students transform 'waste' into recycled art! The Florida Museum will display winning entries from the 11th Annual Trashformations show through Dec. 6. Co-sponsored by the Alachua County Office of Waste Alternatives.
