Educators Open House
Oct. 7, 2009 | 2 - 6 p.m.

You are invited to attend a one-stop-shop open house for educators. This event will give you an opportunity to learn about various educational resources and learning experiences available to you and your students throughout north central Florida. We are partnering with several other educational organizations to bring you information about field trips, tours, activities and free resources. Enjoy refreshments and free admission to the Amazon Voyage exhibit.

Amazon Voyage: Vicious Fishes & Other Riches — Teacher Training
Oct. 20, 2009 | 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Piranhas, anacondas and pink dolphins! Oh my! Join us for a journey down the Amazon to discover the many living treasures along the most biologically diverse river in the world. Learn how seasonal flooding cycles change the river into a giant floodplain lake. Meet piranhas, giant anacondas, and other perils of the Amazon Basin while investigating some of the man-made dangers to this unique habitat. Through guest lectures, hands-on activities and exploration of the Amazon Voyage: Vicious Fishes & Other Riches exhibit you will investigate the region's incredible biodiversity, encounter field researchers making new discoveries, and participate in a celebration of the Amazon River. Enrollment limited to 30 participants

Water and Wildlife of Florida
Feb. 18, 2010 | 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Florida is home to a variety of unique habitats, from limestone caves and springs to estuaries and coral reefs. In this workshop we will follow water as it flows through these environments and interacts with the flora and fauna to help form the many ecosystems that make up Florida. Identify how organisms have adapted to their environment and classify animals into their appropriate habitat. Learn about water related challenges our state faces and how the natural environment and the economy go hand in hand to ensure the future of our state. Limited enrollment.
