THE RANDELL RESEARCH CENTER ENDOWMENT:
A VISION FOR THE FUTURE
Endowment
funds in the amount of $1,300,000, in partnership with already-existing
commitments from the University of Florida and the Florida Museum
of Natural History, will permanently establish the Randell Research
Center at Pineland and allow its learning and teaching programs
to grow and prosper. Less than $330,000 remains to be raised.
Income from the RRC Endowment will help support:
staff, such as a business manager, membership coordinator,
education/public relations assistant, and web-site assistant;
facilities and equipment;
research projects and public programs.
The Florida Museum and the University of Florida are committed
to establishing a permanent research and education facility at Pineland
that will serve Southwest Florida. To this end, they have raised
funds, secured grants, and committed a full-time, permanent position
for a local coordinator.
The Randell Research Center is dedicated to a historical-ecology
approach that provides valuable long-term information on Florida's
changing maritime habitats and the interactions of people with their
surroundings. In southwest Florida, its programs both research
and education are complementary to those of local museums, nature
centers, conservation organizations, public schools, colleges, universities,
eco-tourism, and heritage tourism. By teaching visitors and residents
about the history of the remarkable environments and the cultures
that have prospered along Florida's southern coasts, the RRC encourages
stewardship of Florida's cultural and natural heritage.

NEH Challenge Grant: In 2002, the National Endowment
for the Humanities approved up to $200,000 in federal matching funds,
payable 1:4 during the five year period 2002-2006. In other words,
NEH will match $1 for every $4 we raise towards the RRC endowment.
We invite you to help us reach our endowment goal by 2007. Contributions
are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by federal law. To contribute
to the RRC Endowment fund, make your check payable to Randell
Research Center. Indicate on the check that the gift is intended
for the endowment fund, and note that you want your gift to be matched
by the National Endowment for the Humanities. Or simply fill out
