Bulletin of the Florida Museum of Natural History

Bulletin journal cover The Bulletin of the Florida Museum of Natural History

The Bulletin of the Florida Museum of Natural History was established to provide an outlet for longer scientific manuscripts. It began in 1956 as the Bulletin of the Florida State Museum, Biological Sciences Series. In 1990, Volume 35, the title was changed to Bulletin of the Florida Museum of Natural History, Biological Sciences Series, and in 1995, Volume 37, it became simply Bulletin of the Florida Museum of Natural History.

The Bulletin of the Florida Museum of Natural History publishes peer-reviewed results of original research in zoology, botany, paleontology, archaeology and museum science conducted by our faculty, staff, students and research associates. We also accept submissions of appropriate, fully funded manuscripts from external researchers. Priority is given to monograph-length papers describing specimen-based research. The minimum length for submitted manuscripts is 45 double-spaced pages, including references and appendices but excluding figures, tables and supplemental materials, although there may be exceptions as determined by the managing editor. Address all inquiries to the Managing Editor of the Bulletin.

The Bulletin is published simultaneously in two formats. Approximately 450 printed copies are distributed to libraries and museums world-wide by the University of Florida Library system. Authors have the option of purchasing additional printed copies at cost for distribution to colleagues and associates. An identical, electronic version is posted in PDF format on this web site simultaneously with the availability of the printed version and is available free of charge for reading or downloading. Supplemental materials are available only through the web site.

The Bulletin of the Florida Museum of Natural History is published at irregular intervals. Volumes contain between 150 and 300 pages, sometimes more. The number of papers contained in each volume varies, depending upon the number of pages in each paper, but four numbers is the current standard. Multi-author issues of related papers have been published together, and inquiries about putting together such issues are welcomed. To the present, 48 complete volumes have been published with the number of papers in each volume varying from 3 to 20. The Bulletin's ISSN is 0071-6154.

The Bulletin receives manuscripts in confidence and protects the confidentiality of the content.
