Breathtaking mountain scenery, rich woodlands, and the quaint charm of Asheville await you on this escape into nature. Led by Dr. Jaret C. Daniels, you will have the opportunity to explore the beauty of the Appalachian Mountains and the springtime abundance of nature, including wildflowers, butterflies, birds, and more. With visits to some of the most scenic areas in all of Appalachia, you will also be treated to a mix of traditional and contemporary cuisine in the town of Asheville, as well as at our cozy mountain lodge, the Sourwood Inn.
In addition to full days of enjoying the outdoors, you'll also partake in a wonderful tour of the Biltmore Estate and its many gardens and nature trails. With additional free time, enjoy wine tasting or a vineyard tour to complete the journey!
Join us as we learn about Asheville and the exquisite nature found in the Appalachian mountains from author of the field guide to the Butterflies of the Carolinas, Dr. Jaret Daniels and explore a North Carolina that you've never known before!
Program Leader: Dr. Jaret C. Daniels is not only the distinguished author of
Butterflies of the Carolinas Field Guide (2004), but is also the author of dozens of publications on
wildflowers and butterflies throughout the U.S. In addition, Dr. Daniels is an Assistant Professor of
Entomology at the University of Florida, and the Assistant Director of Exhibits and Public Programs at
the Florida Museum of Natural History. Throughout the trip, Dr. Daniels will be your personal guide to
some of the best areas for wildflowers, butterflies, and much more that North Carolina has to offer.
Dr. Daniels will also lead evening discussions in an educational yet casual manner to immerse the
entire group into the fascinating world of research and environmental conservation work.
