Trinidad is an island just 11 miles north of mainland South America, and is the larger island component of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. At just under 2000 square miles, this tropical country is world renowned for its extraordinary wildlife. Around 460 species of birds, 670 species of butterflies and numerous species of mammals, amphibians and reptiles are native to this tropical island. Photographic and educational opportunities will continually present themselves, whether we are in the field zeroing in on the marvelous Scarlet Ibis, or at our lodge watching wildlife from the balcony.
On this expedition, we will be joined by world-class naturalist guides from Trinidad as well as photographer and PhD student J. Court Whelan. With their knowledge at your side throughout the day, you will gain special insight into the wildlife and ecology of this island in a way so few have access to. With discussions and continuous interpretation while in the field, our team of trained naturalists will provide you with an unforgettable experience of discovery, photography and education. We hope that you share our enthusiasm for this special trip and will be a part of our expedition this summer!
Program Leader: Mr. J. Court Whelan, General Manager for Expedition Travel, Inc. and current Pre-Doctoral Fellow in the Department of Entomology and Nematology at the University of Florida, is making all logistical arrangements for the trip and has guided previous groups to Mexico, South America, Central America, Madagascar and the Galapagos Islands.
