 Australian freshwater crocodile (Crocodylus johnstoni) galloping towards the water. No other reptile has the ability to move in this manner, which although it looks like the bounding leap of a squirrel or a rabbit is actually a true gallop. Only a handful of species have ever been recorded to gallop, including the Nile crocodile, the New Guinea crocodile and the Australian freshwater crocodile. Very brief gallops may occasionally be seen in other species (e.g. saltwater crocodiles), but this gait is normally restricted to smaller individuals which are agile on land. Galloping is used to escape from danger, and freshwater crocodiles have been clocked at speeds of 17 kph - the fastest any croc can move.
