 Australian saktwater crocodile (Crocodylus porosus) jumping out of the water towards a piece of meat. In order to "jump", the crocodile angles its body so that the tail is underneath the body, and the head is pointing up into the air. Then with vigorous thrusts of the tail, together with a treading action with the back feet, the crocodile literally swims upwards and launches itself out of the water. You can see this jumping action very clearly in this video clip because the crocodile is in clear water. This is not a particularly high jump - most crocodiles can launch at least half of their body out of the water (to their back legs) and many can get most of the tail out as well! Jumping is actually a natural behaviour, used by juveniles and adults to grab prey in overhanging branches, or to catch birds or bats flying low over the water. It is not a common feeding behaviour, but it does occur naturally and crocodiles do not have to be "trained" to jump.
