And the winner is...
For the 2007 Pic of the Month competition, there were 17 judges who were able to submit a vote: Lynne Kelly, Jamie Robertson, Ralf Sommerland, Paul Bodnar, Brady Barr, Kent Vliet, Steve Salisbury, Lynn Kirkland, Peter Braziatis, Melissa Kaplan, Chris Dieter, Bruce Shwedick, Boyd Simpson, Colin Stevenson, Bill Moss, Erin Britton and Adam Britton.
Each judge voted for their top 3 images, which received 3 (1st), 2 (2nd) or 1 (3rd) points. This year there were 7 entries to vote for. When the final total was calculated, the top three were ranked as follows:
1st - Hank Schinkel - Saltwater Crocodile Convergence (31 points)
2nd - Thomas Lynott
American Alligator (25 points)

The winner of the best Pic of the Month submitted in 2007 was Hank Schinkel with a fascinating and spectacular picture showing a large group of Saltwater Crocodiles feeding on fish being swept along by freshwater run-off into an upstream creek. What is particularly interesting about this shot is the story it tells about crocodile behaviour, the story it tells about the environment that the crocodiles are taking advantage of, and the incredible detail that keeps your eye busy taking it all in. In 2nd place is Thomas Lynott's highly detailed, almost surreal shot of an American Alligator head rising up by the side of the boat. It's the detail that sells this picture above anything else. In 3rd place we have quite the opposite - the details are blurred, but the action is sharp and the impact is high. Chris Parker was able to use the crocodile's predictable behaviour to get his hair-raising picture!
I will offer the winner, Hank Schinkel, an A4 Ilfochrome Print, but I get the feeling he'll ask me for a salb of his favourite beer instead! Both Thomas and Chris get an authentic NT crocodile postcard!
Thanks again to everyone who sent photographs during 2006, whether they made the Pic of the Month or not. The standard of entries never ceases to amaze me, and all the entries were excellent in one way or another. I'd like to thank everyone again for supporting the website, and I'll see you here next year.
