Inquiry Box: Florida's Fossils
Suitable for: all ages but geared to 5th - 8th grades

Participants will:
- Study the paleohistory of Florida and discover how much the animals and plants have changed over millions of years.
- Learn how paleontologists extract fossilized remains from their surroundings and how casts are made.
- Recognize the difference between fossils and non fossils.
- Learn about the tools for excavating fossils and do an excavating activity.
- Handle replica fossils as well as thousands-of-years-old fossils.
The Florida's Fossils Inquiry Box will contain books (both fiction and non fiction), fossils and replicas of fossils, a timeline, word cards, laminated teaching aids, and a teacher's guide (including a suggested approach sheet)...and more.
This Inquiry Box will feature 14 small boxes designed to be explored by 1-3 students. They will be filled with objects that will help students learn about Florida's Fossils.
This Inquiry Box was designed using the Sunshine State Standards and is intended to enhance FCAT preparation.
