Planning a Field Trip

NEW! Beat the Crowds! The Museum now opens early on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays exclusively for school tours. Book now, arrive at 9 a.m., and have the Museum all to yourselves!
Guided field trip programs are offered Tuesday through Friday mornings, Oct. 1, 2007, through May 16, 2008. Programs fill quickly, especially for the months of October, November, April and May. To avoid disappointment, reserve your date as early in the school year as possible. Reservations must be made a minimum of four weeks in advance of the program date.
Self-guided visits are available for groups that prefer to have a program without a guide or staff. You are entirely responsible for the educational experience of your students. Self-guided group visits are available on Monday- Friday during Museum hours. Guided tours have priority.

It may be difficult to reschedule a program. Choose the six best dates for your field trip. If more than one class is coming on the field trip be sure to coordinate with other teachers before completing the registration form. In order to reduce the number of last-minute cancellations, signature approval from your school principal/director is required. - Complete an online reservation form
Reservations will only be accepted via the online reservation forms below. NO PHONE RESERVATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED. Be sure your e-mail address is correct on the form.

- Confirmation notice
You will be notified by phone or e-mail as soon as your request is processed. If you do not hear from us within two weeks of sending your request, call (352) 273-2026. Confirmation materials will follow approximately three weeks after your request is processed. Additional supplemental materials will be enclosed. Carefully review the confirmation form. Call (352) 273-2026, if corrections are needed. - Fees and payment
- $3 per student/ adult will be charged for any program using docents. There is no charge for chaperones (1:10 chaperone to student ratio is permitted). There will be no guide fees for Inside Africa from March 25 - May 16, 2008.
- Self-guided groups may visit the Museum for free, excluding the Butterfly Rainforest and Inside Africa exhibit.
- An additional $4 per student will be charged for any group that enters the Butterfly Rainforest. Adults in excess of a 1:10 ratio will be charged $6.50.
- After your group's first walk-though the Butterfly Rainforest your group may re-enter this exhibit any time before 1 p.m. with the proper chaperone ratio. Please make sure your group has their wrist bands or the proper "Chaperone Card" ticket. There might be a wait time for re-entrance if the Butterfly Rainforest is at capacity.
- An additional $3 per student will be charged for any group who enters Inside Africa. Adults in excess of a 1:10 ratio will be charged $4.
- Parents/chaperones that are not included on the FIELD TRIP ADMISSION FORM and initial group payment must purchase tickets (for the Butterfly Rainforest and Inside Africa) individually, and cannot receive the group rate.
- Payment in full is due the day of your field trip. Cash, school district check, Visa, American Express and MasterCard are all accepted. Personal checks will not be accepted.
- The Florida Museum of Natural History Admission Assistance Program provides financial assistance to economically disadvantaged school children, other individuals and community groups. For more information, call (352) 273-2057.
- Cancellation
If you must make changes or cancel your visit, please call (352) 273-2026, or e-mail tours@flmnh.ufl.edu at least 14 days in advance of the scheduled date. It may not be possible to reschedule your visit for another date.
Arrival Details — To Make Your Museum Trip a Success!
- Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled time.
- Please complete the forms (which you will receive in your confirmation packet) indicating the exact number of adults and students in your group before you arrive.
- Upon arrival please have the children wait on the bus while one or two adults check in at the front desk to purchase tickets.
- Lunches and coolers can be placed under the covered area on the North side of the building.
- The covered seating area is limited and will accommodate about 60 people.
- Additional lunch seating is available near the Natural Area. (Please do not take groups to the Harn Museum's Camelia Court Cafe.)
