Petition to List Kennebec River Salmon as Endangered May be Warranted
November 21, 2006

Release from:
NOAA

NOAA Fisheries has announced a 90-day finding on a petition to list the Kennebec River population of anadromous Atlantic salmon as endangered under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). The petition presents substantial scientific or commercial information indicating that the petitioned action may be warranted. This finding normally initiates a formal status review, but in this case, NOAA Fisheries and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service have already completed a status review. This report was made available to the public on September 22, 2006. NOAA is now responsible for considering the information in the status review and determining any appropriate action under the ESA.
