Electrofishing is a method of using a backpack shocker and dipnets to catch fishes that otherwise are difficult to capture, often because they live among large rocks where seining is difficult.

Rare or unusual fishes sometimes can be purchased from local fishermen in markets. Having a place like a market to interact with people who are familiar with the local geography and have knowledge of fishing can produce great opportunities for research specimens.
