Saltwater anglers have been reminded that recreational fishing for red snapper in federal waters of the Gulf of Mexico -- from nine miles out to 200 miles out -- closes Oct. 31.
All waters from the Texas shoreline out to nine miles will remain open. The annual closure is made because the National Marine Service estimates the recreational catch quota of 4.47 million pounds of fish in coastal waters will have been reached by the end of October.
Recreational red snapper fishing in federal waters reopens April 21 with a 16-inch minimum size limit and a daily creel limit of four fish.
