The IUCN/SSC Shark Specialist Group

CITES and FAO International Plan of Action (IPOA) for Sharks

SSC at the Asia Regional Conservation Forum
More than 50 SSC members from 13 countries met in Colombo, Sri Lanka in early December to share experiences, and pick up tips and contacts that will enhance their future conservation work. Presentations from Specialist Group representatives highlighted the conservation challenges and successes faced by SSC in the region and included work covering a broad array of taxa (China plants, Korean plants, South Asian invertebrates, Asian elephants, bears, marine turtles, crocodiles, amphibians, and cetaceans). Successes mentioned focused on achieving conservation on the ground and in creating networks of like-minded experts to enhance knowledge-sharing. The meeting was held immediately before the IUCN Asia Regional Conservation Forum and some members stayed on to participate in this meeting.
