Whale shark Rhyncodon typus samples
Researchers at the Hubbs-Sea World Research Institute and the
University of Florida (USA) are conducting a global genetic
survey of whale sharks Rhyncodon typus. They need help to
collect tissue samples from throughout this species' range.
Strandings, incidental catches, fishery products and
nondestructive tissue samples are all acceptable sources of
material. Just a gram or two of tissue is required from each
specimen. Samples can be stored in saturated salt (NaCl)
solution without refrigeration and shipped by air mail. Previously
frozen samples are acceptable.
