Shark-Fin Soup Pulled From Philippe Restaurant's Menu
May 29, 2009

Release from: Miami Herald

Chef Philippe Chow said Thursday he has pulled shark fin soup off the menu at his restaurants and is calling on other Asian restaurants to follow suit and boycott the use of shark fins.

The Miami location of the upscale Chinese restaurant Philippe will no longer be serving the popular Chinese delicacy. Chow had for years focused on purchasing the shark fins from environmentally friendly sources, but he has now decided it is better to stop the practice completely.

Mako sharks, which were formerly used at Philippe, are one of the 10 most endangered species in the world.
