State Seeks Input On Shark Rules
June 8, 2009

Release from: Yvette Hammett
Tampa Tribune

TAMPA - Those who fish for sharks for recreation or money or those with a vested interest in the predators of the deep can attend one of a series of workshops set up by the state to amend its rules on the fish.

The Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission is seeking public input on how to amend its shark management rules to comply with the Interstate Fishery Management Plan for Atlantic Coast Sharks.

The commission wants input regarding the harvest of sharks from state waters, including possible changes to shark bag and size limits, the prohibited shark species list, shark landing requirements and gear rules.

The closest workshop to Tampa is scheduled for Thursday, June 25, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Punta Gorda City Hall, 326 W. Marion Ave., Punta Gorda.
