Commercial Shark Fishery Observer Program
Observer Training
|
Data Collection
Data collection is the most important aspect of a fisheries observer's job while at sea.
The training sessions are used to teach prospective observers the proper techniques used in
data and biological collection. Our program collects data on: species identification of target
and by-catch species, disposition, size, sex, sexual maturity, at vessel fishing mortality, and
information on the type and amount of gear used. The following links will provide more information
on the tools used to collect the data, and the training materials used for the observers.
