Shark Trust in the United Kingdom

September, 1997

The Shark Trust is the first organization in the UK dedicated solely to promoting research into and the conservation and management of sharks, rays and chimaeras. It is the UK member organization of the European Elasmobranch Association, which was established last year at the same location. The Shark Trust was announced at the Birmingham National Sea Life Center on September 4, 1997.
This event was followed by a ten day public exhibition about sharks and rays, and included a preserved specimen of the Borneo River Shark, (Glyphis sp.), recently rediscovered during the Darwin Project in Sabah.
