TACOMA - A Spanaway boy is quickly becoming one of the most revered donors at the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium.

In many ways, he's your average 14 year old. He goes to middle school, helps look after his younger sister, and loves baseball -- especially the Mariners.

Yet in other ways, Anthony Newlander is not your average teenager. But it's not just because he has Down's Syndrome.

His mom Maggie says Anthony often gets riled up, and one of the things that calms him is the shark tank at the Aquarium.

"You know, school is kinda tough at this age, and especially when you're not like all the other kids. We come down here, and he can just calm down," Newlander says.

For the peace it's given him, Anthony decided to give something back to the zoo. He brought a check to the zoo; money he earned doing his chores and odd jobs.

His $100 donation will go towards the zoo's Carousel Brick Campaign. Anthony says it's a thank-you for the good times he has here

As for watching your son find peace?

"That's a blessing, because it's always a fight to be accepted, and the sharks don't care. They come to him...they lay right beside him, and he loves it," Newlander says.

Anthony's gift is more than money...it's a lesson for the teen, and those of us around him. The reason Anthony gave?

"They give to me," Anthony says.
