Mr. Roger Portell

Roger W. Portell, Coordinator of Museum Operations and Collections Manager for the Invertebrate Paleontology Division, has served the Florida Museum of Natural History for over sixteen years. He received his formal training in geology and paleontology at Auburn University and the University of Florida. Roger has collected fossil and Recent invertebrates and fossil vertebrates throughout the southeastern U.S., Caribbean, South America, the Mediterranean, and Japan. He has published numerous articles on the rich record of fossil invertebrates of Florida and Jamaica and is currently conducting research on Eocene tube-dwelling mollusks of Florida and Cenozoic coral-inhabiting barnacles of the southeastern U.S. Since 1994, Roger has served as the Secretary of the Southeastern Section of the Paleontological Society and since 1995 has served as the Editor of Publications for the Florida Paleontological Society, as well as, being on their board.
