S. David Webb is a Distinguished Research Curator of Vertebrate Paleontology at the Florida Museum of Natural History and Professor of Geology and Zoology at the University of Florida in Gainesville. He received his B.A. in Zoology from Cornell University in 1958 and his Ph.D. in Paleontology from the University of California, Berkeley in 1964. He has published extensively on Pleistocene mammals from Georgia, Central America, and elsewhere. Honors include a Guggenheim Fellowship to study in European museums and visiting professorships at Yale University and the Field Museum in Chicago. Dr. Webb recently headed the U.S. delegation to the International Quaternary Association meeting in China. He also serves as Director of the Aucilla River Prehistory Project, a long-term program of underwater excavations in North Florida.
