The geometry of the electrocyte tubes differs among Gymnotus species. Here the lengths of the tubes (as a percentage of Length to End of Anal Fin) are reported for 7 species. Data are averaged from numbers of specimens in parentheses. Note the highly conservative lengths of the two dorsal-most tubes (T1 & T2), and the more variable lengths of the ventral tubes (T3 & T4). Note also the presence of a fifth tube (T5) in the caudal region of G. tigre.
