Purpose of the coloured tabs. *

The Table of Contents section contains the introductory pages, which explain how to use the guide.

 

The Key to adult features section contains the key pages, which are the first steps in the identification process.

 

The blue section American alligator, Alligator mississippiensis contains the illustrations of species of crocodilians that are easily recognizable or that must be referred to a specialist if a subspecies determination is needed.

 

The yellow section American crocodile, Crocodylus acutus contains illustrations of species, that require closer observation or that must be referred to a specialist if a subspecies determination is needed.

 

The orange section Subspecies illustrated contains a list of the crocodilian subspecies that must be referred to a specialist.

The grey section Index A contains Index A, which provides the scientific names of all illustrated species. The scientific names are in alphabetical order and are accompanied by their common names in English, French and Spanish.

The dark grey section Index B contains Index B, which provides an alphabetical list of the scientific and common names of each species. It also includes the pages where they are found in the guide.
