Lister and Lister (1982) classify Romita Plain as an Indigena ware. It is believed that this type is of Native American manufacture, but copying European forms. Lister and Lister feel that this may have been a cheap service ware that held up better than the more fragile majolicas. Romita Plain production may have extended beyond the 16th century.
