Genome Workshop for Teachers
We are partnering with the Industrial Biotechnology Teacher Experience program (IBTE), University of Florida, to develop a short workshop on genomics and genomic data analysis. IBTE is a two-week intensive workshop for high school teachers wanting to learn about the latest in biotechnology. During the workshop teachers learn about fundamental concepts in biotechnology and receive guidance for integrating the information into the classroom. The course is held at the University of Florida, Center for Excellence for Regenerative Health Biotechnology and is attended by teachers from 14 schools across 11 districts, reaching over 800 students. During this workshop we will present a short talk on genome assembly, annotation, and comparison and introduce freely available analytical tools that teachers can use to introduce genomics to the classroom.
