Adult caiman in a typical floating posture at the water surface. Crocodilians can lay motionless in this neutrally-bouyant position, with front and rear legs extended to prevent rolling. The ingestion of gastroliths - small stones or other objects - may affect this bouyancy, although the stones may also have a role in grinding up food.
