Cuban crocodiles possess quite well-developed dorsal armour, visible in this photograph along the back, and also along the flanks and legs. Allegedly, this species is found practising the crocodilian 'high-walk' more frequently than other species, marking it as a more terrestrial animal. However, a favourite hunting strategy involves launching the body vertically upwards from the water to snatch arboreal mammals from trees.
