Ringneck snake

Scientific name: Diadophis punctatus.

The following key will separate the two subspecies of ringneck snake that are found in Florida. If you are not sure about the color patterns referred to in the key, you can probably identify the subspecies by geographic location.

1a No neck ring; lower Florida keys. Keys ringneck snake,

1b Neck ring present, but usually broken in the middle; peninsular Florida north through southern Alabama and the coastal plain to southeastern Virginia. Southern ringneck snake,
