Exhibit Design

Northwest Florida: Waterways and Wildlife was the first permanent exhibition hall to open in the Florida Museum of Natural History's Powell Hall Education and Exhibition Center. Powell Hall opened to the public in January, 1998, but the Northwest Florida exhibit was officially opened in August, 2000. During the entire fabrication process the public was invited to "Come Watch our Progress" and allowed to observe museum artisans as they crafted each area of the exhibit. Visitors were even enlisted to help cut plastic leaves destined for the hammock forest. Northwest Florida was an opportunity for people to appreciate the efforts involved in creating a permanent exhibition hall, as well as learn about Florida's most important resource.

In days when large natural history exhibits are multimillion-dollar endeavors that are oftentimes outsourced, Northwest Florida was principally created in-house and represents the best of the museum's resources, talents and experiences.
