Museum designers wanted a dramatic entrance to the Northwest
Florida exhibit, one that would orient the visitor to the main themes
and components of the overall exhibit.

First, a wood structure was built by Nathan Bruce.

After the wood paneling was primed, Brian Chamberlain began sculpting
the limestone outcropping. It was first formed out of wire mesh,
then coated with concrete. After painting, it was covered with lichens
and plants.
