ARTIST'S STATEMENT

As an artist, I had a wonderful opportunity to work with a team of artists, sculptors, a designer and several naturalists to create murals for three habitats in the NW Florida Hall at the FLMNH. Creating museum habitat backgrounds is different from creative easel painting in two main ways. The first is that you are trying to create the illusion that the three dimensional foreground continues seamlessly into the painted background which requires cooperation with the foreground artists and the lighting designer. The second is that the painting must be scientifically accurate in terms of the ecosystem. It is unusual for painters to get to work in a team endeavor, and I am glad I had this opportunity.
