Fla. Museum recruiting children's summer camp teachers

GAINESVILLE, Fla. --- The Florida Museum of Natural History is recruiting teachers for its 1st-6th grade half-day summer camp programs. There is no deadline to apply and previous teaching experience is recommended.

Teaching duties include developing lesson plans and activities, classroom instruction and working with Florida Museum Junior Volunteers. The summer camps are designed to provide hands-on, minds-on opportunities and to allow children to learn through activities, crafts, literature and museum resources.

Teaching benefits include $15 per hour; paid, mandatory, training sessions on May 14 and June 7; the option to teach one to four summer sessions; access to museum lesson plans and resources; Junior Volunteer and Florida Museum staff assistance; teaching experience and a chance to explore the natural world with young people.

The half-day, week-long camp sessions will take place June 13-17, June 20-24, June 27-July 1, July 18-22, July 25-29 and Aug. 1-5. Morning sessions will last from 8:30 a.m.-12 p.m. and afternoon sessions will be held from 1-4:30 p.m. Topics include Flying Bugs, Edible Geography, Kitchen Chemistry and much more. Children will be grouped by grades 1-2, 3-4 and 5-6.
