GAINESVILLE, Fla. --- The Florida Museum of Natural History is seeking Junior Volunteers ages 13-17 for the summer. There is no deadline to apply and no previous experience is necessary. Junior Volunteers are needed during all museum hours and training will be provided for a wide range of positions.
The volunteers will bring the Florida Museum alive by creating Discovery Carts, interactive stations loaded with hands-on objects, pictures and activities. They will engage visitors in the Butterfly Rainforest as they assist with butterfly identification and answer questions. They also will supervise and clean the Discovery Room, a place where guests and children can play, read or participate in themed activities.
"The junior volunteer program fosters leadership skills while providing a sense of community for young people," Florida Museum Volunteer Coordinator Sally Wazny said. "Museum staff and the community at large benefit from the contributions, energy and creativity of our junior volunteers."
For more information on how to become a junior volunteer call Volunteer Coordinator Sally Wazny, (352) 846-2000, ext. 210 or e-mail swazny@flmnh.ufl.edu. Applications can be found online at www.flmnh.ufl.edu/volunteers/vol_juniors.htm.
