GAINESVILLE, Fla. --- Florida Museum of Natural History visitors can learn about Tibetan Buddhism and Tibetan lifestyle in a day of family fun 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Feb. 3 as the museum opens its newest temporary exhibit, "Tibet: Mountains and Valleys, Castles and Tents."

Author Whitney Stewart will present "Tibet and the 14th Dalai Lama" at 1 p.m., which includes details from her interview with the Dalai Lama. This multi-media presentation on Tibetan culture will entice a variety of ages from fourth-graders to adults. The presentation and other activities are free. There is a charge to visit the Tibet exhibit, $4 for adults, $2 for children ages 3-12 and free to Florida Museum members.

The "Tibet: Mountains and Valleys, Castles and Tents" exhibit is from The Newark Museum's renowned collection of historical and archival treasures of Tibetan culture, considered the finest in the Western Hemisphere. In the exhibit, visitors can journey through the mountains of Tibet and witness a community steeped in a rich and ancient past. Beautifully crafted jewelry, furniture and ceremonial ornaments tell a tale of a lavish aristocracy, while personal belongings, weapons and tools of nomadic traders, farmers and herders tell a very different story. The exhibit is on display through May 28.
