Dig for treasure during Museum Nights at the Fla. Museum March 22

GAINESVILLE, Fla. --- Enjoy an evening digging for treasure, participating in demonstrations of geological phenomena and watching gem cutting demonstrations with the University of Florida Department of Geological Sciences and Gainesville Gem and Mineral Society from 5-10 p.m. March 22 during Museum Nights at the Florida Museum of Natural History. "Can You Dig It?" will provide a fun-filled exploration of rocks, gems, fossils and Earth for all ages.

"Museum Nights" are sponsored by UF Student Government and held most Thursday evenings while UF is in session at the Florida Museum and Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art.

Other upcoming special event nights at the Florida Museum this semester include "Butterfly Night" on April 5, featuring the award-winning Butterfly Rainforest exhibit, and "Starry Night: The Birth of the Stars and Planets," April 12, co-sponsored by the UF Astronomy Department and Alachua Astronomy Club.

The Florida Museum of Natural History is Florida's state natural history museum, dedicated to understanding, preserving and interpreting biological diversity and cultural heritage. It is located near the intersection of Southwest 34th Street and Hull Road in the University of Florida Cultural Plaza in Gainesville. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Butterfly Rainforest admission is $8.50 for adults ($7.50 Fla. residents) and $4.50 for children ages 3-12.
