Uncover Earth's secrets during 'Can You Dig It?' March 27 at the Fla. Museum

GAINESVILLE, Fla. --- Discover gems, dig for fossils and uncover the beauty of the Earth at the Florida Museum of Natural History from 5 - 9 p.m. March 27 during "Can You Dig It?," part of the Museum Nights program open to the public. Visitors can enjoy family-friendly, hands-on activities like "Oreo tectonics" and geologist-led demonstrations of volcanic eruptions and other phenomena.
Other activities include stone- and gem-cutting demonstrations by the Gainesville Gem and Mineral Society, the opportunity for guests to dig in a "gem mine" on the lawn of the Florida Museum and demonstrations by the University of Florida Department of Geological Sciences. Visitors who collect a stamp from each of 10 activity stations will win a prize.
Sponsored by UF Student Government, "Museum Nights" are held on select Thursday evenings while the University of Florida is in session at the Florida Museum and Harn Museum of Art. Enjoy unique entertainment, food and fun during extended museum hours, 5 - 9 p.m.

The Florida Museum of Natural History is Florida's state natural history museum, dedicated to understanding, preserving and interpreting biological diversity and cultural heritage. It is located near the intersection of Southwest 34th Street and Hull Road in the University of Florida Cultural Plaza in Gainesville. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Butterfly Rainforest admission is $8.50 for adults ($7.50 Fla. residents) and $4.50 for children ages 3-12.
