Support the Museum
Monarch Society
The start-up and operation of the complex Butterfly Rainforest exhibit requires hundreds of thousands of dollars from private sources. Monarch Society gifts will support exhibits, research, and public programs at the McGuire Center for Lepidoptera and Biodiversity.
Ornithology Club
Help scientists broaden our understanding of birds and their habitats. Your gift will fund research that will lead to new discoveries, provide support for scientists and graduate students, and purchase equipment for improved collections storage and data management.
Membership
Understanding, preserving and interpreting Florida's biological diversity and cultural heritage is our central mission. Become a member of the Florida Museum Associates or Curators Society and join scientists, curators and educators in exploring, preserving and teaching about the unique natural heritage of Florida, the region and the world.
Endowments
Private endowments help to secure the future of the Florida Museum by providing a predictable and permanent source of funding year after year. Invested wisely, they are effective hedges against rising costs and allow the Florida Museum to plan strategically for the future.
Other Ways to Support the Museum
- Donate online!
- Cash gifts are the simplest and most desirable method for providing support.
- If the stock market has been good to you this year, and you are considering a charitable year-end gift, a gift of appreciated stock might be the right choice for you. In most cases, the benefits of a stock transfer may include a charitable deduction, as well as no capital gains tax (if the stock has been held for more than one year).
- Gifts also can be made by way of real estate and personal property, which may result in additional tax benefits.
- Over the years, friends and alumni have remembered the museum in their estate plans. Benefactors who document a specific or residual bequest in their will of at least $10,000 also receive recognition in the University of Florida's Bequest Society; one the university's most prestigious donor honorary organizations.
- Surplus life insurance coverage can become a charitable gift to the museum or create an endowment from your income rather than the principal.
