Setting up our working space

We have installed the cryofreezer! It is located in the second floor of the loading dock at Dickinson Hall, the Florida Museum of Natural History.

The first step was to relocate the emergency shower.

Cryofreezer Installation

The next step was to install the freezer. In this step it was necessary to calibrate and define the computer settings. The liquid nitrogen levels were set to be between 5 and 7 inches, the last level corresponds to the lowest level where samples will be deposited. The liquid nitrogen vapor difuses along the walls of the cryofreezer and cools down the system. Three dewars of liquid nitrogen (180L/22psi) were used during the initial load. Currently the cryofreezer operates at -190°C.

We loaded the specimens after a test period of approximately three weeks. Check the statistics of our collection!
