Volunteering - Juniors

Junior Volunteers

Junior Volunteers Work with Education Staff and other Junior Volunteers to foster inquisitiveness throughout the museum through running Discovery Carts, which are interactive carts loaded with hands on objects, pictures, and activities that bring the museum alive; and the Discovery Room, a special place for children and families to interact with natural history objects, games, and lessons. JV's also help with summer camps and special events and programs throughout the year. Most Junior Volunteer opportunities take place on weekends or throughout the summer. JV's must be age 12 or older. All JV's will be trained and supervised.

Junior Volunteer Program - How to Apply

The Junior Volunteer Program runs on an annual calendar which begins in March each year, when 12 to 17 year-olds apply to volunteer for the coming summer. The program for 2008 is CLOSED, and applications are no longer being accepted.

If you are 12 to 17 years old and would like to be added to our reserve contact list to indicate your availability for school year volunteering (September through May), please contact the Volunteer Coordinator (contact information below).

Application information for the Summer 2009 Junior Volunteer Program will be available on this website by March 1, 2009. The program is very popular, so applicants are encouraged to note all deadlines and requirements to ensure consideration of your application.

NEW!! Child-Adult Team Volunteers

This program is designed for children age 7 to 11 years old and a parent or authorized adult (18 or older) to work with museum staff in a variety of settings. This is an appropriate program for former campers to use their museum knowledge, for children who might be interested in serving as Junior Volunteers in the future, for parents or grandparents who want to promote volunteerism in their families, or for any child/adult team with an interest in science or history. For more information or to apply, contact the Volunteer Coordinator (see contact information below).
