Wild Music: Songs & Sounds of Life – Open Now!

Whales compose, bullfrogs chorus, songbirds greet dawn and people everywhere sing and dance. What do we have in common? Musical instincts run deep. Visit Wild Music to explore the biological origins of music. Listen to the rhythm of the forests and cities and the melodies of the sea and skies. Investigate the songs of whales, lay down a beat in the Jamming Room, or explore sound and song more closely through hands-on activities in this interactive exhibit. Science Stories

Science Stories is an ongoing series featuring Florida Museum natural science research.

fossilized seeds

Museum scientists visited a site in Peru containing fossilized grape seeds in hopes of shedding new light on what the climate in South America was like millions of years ago. The site, which is now a dry desert region, produced an abundance of fossils from plant species that have not grown in Peru for millions of years. Vines, including those producing grapes, are more common in humid, wet environments indicating the area was a dense forest at one time. Learn More...
