GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The “Butterfly Rainforest” exhibit at the Florida Museum of Natural History will close early at 4 p.m., with last admission at 3:30 p.m., beginning Wednesday through Oct. 6 for scheduled maintenance.

The exhibit also will be closed all day on Wednesday, Sept. 7, and Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016, for installation and removal of scaffolding.

Chase Permann, Florida Museum facility coordinator for exhibits and public programs, said the work includes pressure washing, sanding, painting and other repairs.

“We are focused on containing the dust and overspray as well as repainting some areas that have rusted in the more than 10 years the exhibit has been open,” Permann said. “Safety for our guests and contractors is our No. 1 priority. The ‘Butterfly Rainforest’ will be completely safe for visitors during maintenance.”

The remainder of the museum, including the featured exhibit “Wicked Plants,” will operate under regular hours.

The “Butterfly Rainforest” is a 6,400-square-foot living exhibit that features hundreds of free-flying butterflies, including 60-80 butterfly and moth species at any given time.

Admission to the “Butterfly Rainforest” is $13 for adults, $11 for Florida residents, seniors and college students and $6 for children ages 3 to 17. Museum members and University of Florida students with a valid Gator 1 card receive free admission.

The museum is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
