This is a live view from inside the University of Florida Bat House, built in 1991. About 250,000 bats live in the structure. This view shows an open "attic" space where the bats can fly, which they do periodically throughout the day, especially just before their emergence after sunset.

An ongoing issue with this camera is keeping it free of urine and debris. The Florida Museum is working with the UF College of Engineering to develop a solution for keeping the lens clear between periodic cleanings.

Best times for viewing:

The best viewing times are throughout the day when temperatures are above 65 F and especially just before the bats emerge at dusk. The bats normally remain out of sight under the attic until temperatures rise above 65 F.
