Gatun turret shell | tornillo de Gatún
Shell is slender and highly variable, but typically bearing two major spiral cords and numerous minor spiral cords on each whorl.
Size: 50-70 mm.
Ecology: inhabits shallow marine (5-50 m) waters, burrowing in sand and silt near sediment surface; filter-feeding.
Geological range: Middle Miocene-Late Miocene (14-6 million years ago).
Geographic distribution: Caribbean – Panama, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Trinidad, and Venezuela; Pacific – Panama, Costa Rica, and Ecuador.
