GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Museum of Natural History and the Quilters of Alachua County Day Guild will open the “Quilting Natural Florida II” exhibit Feb. 6, 2010.

The exhibit features 105 quilts from 13 states and Sweden that illustrate Florida plants, animals and environments. The quilts were selected by jurors from the Florida Museum and the Quilters Guild, and vary greatly from traditional designs to the more artistic and abstract.

“It’s a challenge for the entrants’ skill level and creativity to meet the criteria, but their quilts uniquely express the beauty and wonderment of natural Florida,” said Florida Museum assistant director of exhibits Darcie MacMahon.

Quilters of Alachua County Day Guild member and exhibit organizer Gloria Comstock said she is pleased with the quality and variety of the quilts to be displayed.

“It’s interesting how the quilters interpreted the same subject,” Comstock said.

The exhibit runs through April 25, 2010. Admission is $6 for adults ($5 Florida residents), $4.50 for seniors and Florida college students, and free for youth 17 and younger.
