The National Science Foundation has recognized the significance of the Florida Museum of Natural History's Ichthyology collection in awarding several
collection support grants since 1978. The most recent award for "Improvements to the Florida Museum of Natural History Ichthyological Collection" provided
additional high density storage units used to house the UF collection as well as support of the ongoing effort to sort, identify, and catalog much of the
museum's specimen backlog. More than 40,000 previously uncatalogued lots (ca. 400,000 specimens) were added to the collection database during this project,
greatly facilitating the systematic works of ichthyologists using the UF collection. We are most grateful for the support the National Science Foundation
has provided to the Florida Museum and other systematic collections throughout the United States.
